I don't think I will have real web access during the ascent of mount
Kilimanjaro, but Email may be an option. So do not expect pictures, just
text. I noticed that you are going to find an ugly disclaimer at the end of each post, the disclaimer will probably be larger than the post itself ... To avoid the disclaimer, gmail may be a better option.
It would seem that Vodacom covers pretty much of the mountain and they sell GPRS capable devices, so one may hope that their network supports them.

Intro

We are going to try climing mount Kilimanjaro this summer (2006) and I thought that keeping a record of our progress available to all would be a useful and fun thing.
For the moment, the booking has been made, we are leaving for Tanzania on the 20th of July 2006 and will take the Machame route, also named the Whiskey route. I have been reading up on the many websites that talk about the topic to get a better idea of what we can expect. Physical condition should be OK and real soon now we will have to go shopping for the necessary gear.
Will we make it? All I have read seems to indicate that physical condition is not the main thing, it is how well you cope with the altitude. We don't really have experience with that, the highest I ever climbed was 3300 meters or so. It will become clear as we go I guess.
