Long time no blog

Really long time no blog. Ah well, in the mean time we did make it to the top of mount Kilimanjaro, that was in the summer of 2006. This year we took up biking and on holiday we did a trip from Avignon in the south of France to Firenze in Italy. We did 80 km on average a day and had a few extra days in between. Being who I am, all the hotels were booked in advance and almost to my suprise we didn't have a single wrong booking or misunderstanding.

If anyone out there is interested in a longer account of the Kili climb or the biking trip, let me know, I'll do some work on it.

On the way back from Firenze we put our bikes on the plane, that was not such a good idea. My bike came out totally unusable. have to say that the airline company (Brussels Airlines) was OK in the sense that after 8 to 10 weeks they paid for the damage. They had said from the start it would take that long, so although I felt it was a bit long, you could at least count on what they were saying. The side "benefit" of this: in September I was without a bike and thinking hard what to do about repainring or replacing my damaged bike. The somewhat strange result was that I bought myself a real race bike, it only just arrive last week. Not having a bike I have mostly been running in these last couple of months, so now I need to get back to cycling to do my new bike justice.

On the techie front, I have not been able to resist the iPhone craze and so got one a coupe of weeks ago. In hindsight it proved to be great timing. I got it just when the 1.1.1 firmware was reliably jailbroken and unlocked and before the 1.1.2 phone were brought out. So I can use my iPhone in Belgium with my Proximus subscription. I have never been an Apple fan, at least not for personal computing, I wanted to have control and Apple always gave the impression of being all for ease of use but don't ask how it works. But with my iPhone and an iPod nano for running, I seem to be sliding towards Apple. I have even started considering purchasing a MacBook. Mind you, it would have to have Vista on it as well to let me keep doing the development I am doing. The main driver is Design, there may be nicely designed laptops out there, but you can't deny the Apple style is great!

Oops, got a visitor, will continue later, hopefully in less than a month ...
